My mistake was an optic batfish. I was picking up a skimmer from a guy when I first started in this hobby and stopped by an Lfs. The person running the store didn't speak much English and to my delight my phone died. I see this black fish w Orange outer stripe and love it. I ask hey this thing get big? She say nooooooooo"... I even watch it eat Mysis at the store. Bring it home... Needless to say I was slightly disappointed that it would end up looking like a giant 2 foot silver plate in my 120g. Never got to that part because the little puffer I had decided he likes orange fins also causing it to break out in ich and to die shortly after arrival.

I literally could not pick a worse fish to buy for a home tank... The optic bats shouldn't be sold in Lfs at all but w me coming from freshwater angels and discus, I thought hey this thing looks like a mix of angel and discus on acid, and no one bought it yet !!!

I can imagine the store lady sitting in the back w my money, rubbing her hands together w a evil little smirk, mumbling "caught another idiot, must be good bait"

I've said this before... taking fish from their home and flying them halfway around the world to put them in tiny glass boxes SHOULD be immoral, but it is the whole point of the hobby! If you can justify that then burning a fish with a laser is by far the lesser crime.

There's an entire field of philosophy regarding these questions. Intent is important. Feeding another animal goldfish serves a more important purpose than burning a fish's eye with a laser because you feel it's the best option. That's simply lazy malice. Killing a deer to feed your family is better than killing it just to mount the head on your wall. Listen to your conscience. Most people have a pretty good one. Some don't, though. They're called sociopaths.

To stay on topic, I'm going to say a mated pair of bristletail filefish. One died within two days and I felt really bad for the remaining one.

Octopuses have a relatively short life expectancy, with some species living for as little as six months. Larger species, such as the giant pacific octopus, may live for up to five years under suitable circumstances. However, reproduction is a cause of death: males can live for only a few months after mating, and females die shortly after their eggs hatch. They neglect to eat during the (roughly) one-month period spent taking care of their unhatched eggs, eventually dying of starvation. In a scientific experiment, the removal of both optic glands after spawning was found to result in the cessation of broodiness, the resumption of feeding, increased growth, and greatly extended lifespans.
Don't believe you had it for 11 years.

Gold spotted rabbit fish. He's pretty and nice enough, but he looks huge even in my 300 gallon.

Jewel damsel - nasty little thing from moment caught in the Keys. Grew to 5 inches of mean, ate the dorsal fin off a Desjardins tang. Removed tail from a hippo tang. Both still around, but not the damsel. Took tank move to extract him.

I think the Mother Nature was really in a ****ed off mood when it created the Damsel fish specially the Jewel Damsel. It looks so nice as a juvi but the adult becomes mean and drab looking

Mine would be every fairy wrasse I ever bought. They some how find the smallest of openings and end up on the floor. They are amazingly good at finding a way to go carpet surfing in my house.

To me are the blennies, people say they are reef safe? no way they are not reef safe, liveaquaria say blennies are reef safe no way they eat SPS, I got two blennies (bicolor and lawnmover) at different times and both eat SPS so no way don't buy those fishes if you have SPS.

I bought them because I had algae issues but trust me they will eat SPS polyps so don't buy them.

Think she's talking about the husband . . .

Back on topic, I've been pretty happy with all my fish choices for the current tank (except for those ones from Petco, with Ich...), but many years ago had a tomato clown and a magenta dottyback in a 55. Never could put another fish in . . .

At first ,I was always harping about the Yellow Coris Wrasse, then I went and got a Coral beauty that took the Crown of Asshat...Well, I upped one and got a Cute little Starry Blenny that at first was so shy and timid but now the spotty little Asshat is mean. All my Tangs have bite marks on their sides because they just so happen to swim on his side of a 180gl tank. That little Fart. I know one day he's gonna bite the wrong fish at the wrong time.

This got to be a joke - an octopus usually only lives 2 to 3 years. I doubt that they can ever reach 11+ years, even with their suicide gland surgically removed.

The Niger trigger in my avatar. Got him just over an inch, was up to about 6" now and the past week started rearranging corals daily. The final straw was when he broke my approx. 30 head euphyllia coral and was carrying a piece of it around yesterday. Tore apart half the tank to get him out and off the to store he went.

Purple Dotty back. That fish bullied everything in my tank. I think all my fish teamed up against him and threw him out the tank.
