Sand silt help?????
Hey everyone I have a 2 month old 10 gallon nano with 8 pounds of dry sand from Marco rocks. I didn't pre wash the sand first being foolish. It's got a ac50 hob and a nano 425 powehead. I change poly Fil twice a week but the sand Particles cloud the water it's not noticeable in a pic but in person it is it will settle on the back of the powerhead and heater and such after a few days. Anyone have a way to speed this process it makes the tank look awful

all I know you could do is redo it rinse the sand then pour the water in very slowly or wait a few days for it to settle.

Get some polyester fiber stuffing from the craft store (same stuff as LFS but cheaper) and go nuts with it. Use a good wad stuffed in the filter and go at the tank with a turkey baster to get stuff moving around. Then change out the filter floss at least once a day. I use a HOB AC70 for detritus control also. I cut some eggcrate into a small piece and put it in the AC filter so it goes across the outflow to hold the filter floss in place. It works better if you can ensure that all the water flowing back to the tank is going through (not just over and around) your filter floss. If you're just using the stock AC filter inserts you may not be actually trapping a lot of the fine stuff.
It will clear eventually, don't worry! |
