finaly got this thing up and going, running 2 400W 10k at the moment, having issues with the VHO actinicts, might be the ballast (Coralvue 660), sending it in. Will start stocking in a couple weeks. Currently have a BK SM 200 skimmer hooked up, way to much for this tank. 1 more MP 40 on the way, as well as an APEX. More to come |

Can you post a picture of your sump, and how you've got the skimmer in it?

Wow... You definitely need to dial that skimmer way back!! Turn that nozzle on the pumps volute way in.. You have way too much air going into the skimmer. I would suggest starting at 1.5 turns out and see how that is. Let the skimmer break in for a week. Once it's broken in, then adjust the nozzle to get the most dense foam without having a bunch of micro bubbles exiting the skimmer. If the skimmer overflows, you may need to raise it up by putting it on a stand. I would start by using egg crate stacked on top of each other until you get the skimmer dialed in after being broken in. Then you can make a permanent stand. Also keep in mind that since you don't have any fish in the system, let alone a cycled tank, there is no appreciable amount of dissolved organics in the water. Without enough dissolved organics, you will make very little foam and end up with much more bubbles escaping the skimmer as micro bubbles in your sump. That is a very big skimmer for your system and these Bubble Kings should be appropriately sized and not oversized if you want the best performance.

Thank you for the response Slief! I took you advice and it seems to be a little more in control. My plan is to purchase a smaller one for this system, most likely the DC 180. Once I hit 50 posts I will post in classified.
