sorry, no pics yet. my avatar dog got very ill right before the 4th of july and died from sudden heart issues. i've been pretty discombobulated ever since and have not yet done my w/c. hopefully, sometime this week i will be able to get that done and get pics.

My sincere condolences. Having a pet pass can be awful. I got a Siamese kitten after my divorce and over the years he became a real companion. At 7 years he even turned my now new wife into a cat lover. He passed at 18 years and even my wife who used to hate cates was broken hearted. That unconditional love of a pet is something special.

sometimes i think i should just stick with fish but another dane in need always finds me. right now, there is one in st. louis being kept in a crate in an abandoned warehouse in this unbearable heat. he is only let out once a day. i'm trying to get him out of that situation asap. thought i'd get a water change done today but ended up with a flat tire on my tractor. guy called and said he was coming today so i don't wanna start on the tank and have to stop in the middle. murphy's law around here lately!!!

The op has what I believe are Chaetopterid/Spionid. They are safe but their numbers can become rather ugly.
Sorry about your loss Nina. You might want to check under your bed for clowns, they are rather sneaky.lol |

They look like a type of local tube worm we get here and it looks like that layer of sand on top came out of your local water it appears to be sand primarily composed of quarts if you took it from your local waters they may have been in the sand

ok, i did a big water change today. i scooped some of the sand out with the little things "growing". i could not tell anything about them. none had any sort of worm in it, at least not that i could see. they more or less just crumbled in my fingers when i tried to pick them up. nothing really to even take a picture of.
no clowns.
