I just setup my 55g tank fish only. I have a wave maker and an internal filter. I am considering buying a canister filter. Which is best, the aquanova 1200 or the jebo 828?

Unless you commit to cleaning it 1-2 times a week you may want to skip the canister filter. A protein skimmer will actually pull stuff from the water rather than rotting inside the canister.
