Ended up with another tank
My husband helped a guy from work move over the weekend and much to my surprise came home with a fish tank in the trailer. The second I saw it I my entire body RELAXED & I thought oh perfect a quarantine tank, could tell it was a 55 gallon. As I started walking to the truck & my started my usual ramblings I was telling him how worried I'd been since my little guy (our son)broke our 29 gallon we keep running in the garage for just in case purposes leaving us with NO QT. (This is where it gets hairy, & I began to see coolers in his truck). I immediately, once again started rambling about having no interest in another fresh water tank, (we did that for 10 years before going to salt water) when I was given the shock of a lifetime. He opened a cooler for me to see a 5 inch powder blue tang. To wrap this up, we now have a 55 gallon with huge powder blue tang, a large clown, large pistol shrimp, & the biggest bristle sea start I've ever seen all though we don't actually see it much. The tank already had two wave makers but has NEVER had any filtration, he just "infrequent water changes". Now the only thing I could do here as Steve was explaining he would not take them to our local fish store because he was IN LOVE with the tang & always wanted one was set up his little baby tank that would have been my perfect "hospital". I put two 75 aqueon filters on. And so far water perimeters are awesome, like I said this would be day two of running the tank. On top of all this my husband literally brought all the sand that was in the tank & the water, thinking it would keep it as an established tank, I haven't decided if he's possessed, breathing toxic fumes, started drugs, or who I've married. I have 4 tangs in 300 gallon and much to much else to list, needless to say they have had their own spots in their own tank for more than 3 years, there is NO way in hell to put this blue powder tang in my display tank without killing her. Last night I had him convinced to sell this fish, it is BEAUTIFUL, but WILL DIE QUICKLY in my tank. Then this morning Steve fed her a live shrimp (we raise our own for our guys) out of his hand & she happily danced as though she was just as in love with him as he is with her. So yup, there ya go. I now have a 55 gallon tank with a HUGE tang & not only need a little QT but a new home for this one. I'm the stupid lady putting HUGE fish in tiny tank hoping for something other than disaster. However I've got 5 kiddos, which I do love more than my fish, all though at times it's a toss up, lol, they require much money for back to school, so that's where my funds are going & not into tanks. Mind you we saved for almost 4 years before starting our salt water venture. So this 55 gallon will have to be a home for a bit until I have completed back to school shopping. Then bigger tank & this 55 can be my new hospital. Any advice for keeping such small tank & should I be expecting a crash. My LFS laughed so hard when I told them what hubby had done & wished us the best of luck. One guy popped in to see them on his way home, lives not far from us, very convient when I need frozen food & don't wanna load up all the kids. He says they seems happy as pigs in mud but stick with 10% water changes every other day. But my levels are holding SO FAR, (again just starting day 2) sorry for rambling. I'm still shock!

Forgot: 75 watt coral life light barely fits, but I think it will do for now. Just a few little things alive on the rocks in there. & I put in 5 hermit crabs.

I love powder blues. What other tangs do you have in the 300? I'd be doing some research to see if you can get away with it in the big tank. Powder blues can be very aggressive, so it's possible that he'd hold his own. The size of the other tangs could make a difference too.

If that PBT is in a 55 in that picture, it's not very big yet. It only looks like it's 3-5" long.
I think lifeoffaith is probably right about it holding it's own. Good luck. Keep us posted on how you make out with it.
