plastic hangers in aquascape??

I am going to redo my rockwork to make more open areas in the tank. I have seen a few people say they used plactic hangers epoxied into the rock for structure support. Is there anything negative that can be leeched out of the plastic hangers into the tank? Should only white hangers be used? My tank is sps heavy with lps. I do not want to use something that could potentially hurt the tank. Thanks.

I don't see why you couldn't use them but if you are worried get some acrylic rod from the local plastic supplier.

I have used both white and black without seeing any issues.

I've seen a good share of posts from people who use them, but have also read of them failing. I would worry about the strength myself.

Thanks for the input, I never even thought to question how strong they are.

usually hangers are flimsy and break down over time. I don't think i would trust them myself, but I am sure plenty of people have used them without any issues.

honestly I'd be concerned about them leeching chemicals into the tank.

Think about it: People won't use buckets that aren't food safe to mix salt water in. I'm willing to bet plastic hangars aren't food safe plastic either

I was thinking the same thing on the food grade plastic. I am going to pass on the hangers and try to get my hands on some acylic rods. Thanks.

Fiber glass arrow shafts or driveway markers are MUCH stronger and pretty cheap. I have used both with no problems.

I've used driveway markers. There are several in my tank at the moment that have been in service a few years. I haven't had any issues that I would attribute to them.
