Can anyone identify?

So I don't know what this is. I have not added any fish, rock or anything live in 2 months. I have been battling brown algae on the surface of almost everything for 5-6 weeks but it doesn't look anything like this and honestly I think I am controlling the brown algae.
I installed a protein skimmer on Saturday and then I started noticing this hair-like stuff all over my rock. It is very strange and I have no idea what it is and how to cure it. I rubbed my hand over the rock and it seemed to act like a mushroom would act if I kicked it in my backyard, with spores going everywhere.
Can you help?

Well at one time I had little white, soft growths a few months into my new tank. They grew in darker areas. Looked almost like tiny pineapples. 1-3mm. They were sponges. It's kind of hard to see what you are referring to. If it's green it could be a hair algae.
