Brown Spots In Fuge??
I am new to a fuge and pretty new in saltwater in general. So I have a deep sandbed around 3 inches maybe more. ALL NEW SAND IN TANK and FUGE. I have a piece of liverock and 4 mangrove plants that are still new. Curious what these brown spots are?
Nothing seen in the main tank... i have a pretty big CUC so idk if they are keeping it in check or what. My parameters have been 0-0-0 with Ph around 8. I can link the sand if needed but it was carribsea? idk a live sand like fine reef sand? lol lmk if you want link I can find it if needed. heres pic http://i.imgur.com/P85LGYp.jpg?1 |

I'm thinking diatoms as well. There will likely be more tomorrow and eventually it'll die down. Cyano is generally more of a red color and will grow over the sand in more of a "mat". Diatoms generally start in small splotches as pictured. I'd let it ride and do it's thing. They'll go away on their own

New sand makes me think diatoms for sure. They feed off of silicates
