1HP or 1.5HP chiller recommendation
Hi guys. I'm looking for a 1HP or 1.5HP chiller for the tank. I'm running 2 ATI powermodules so I expect the tank to be on the warmer side.
I've been using JBJ, but their 1HP chiller is not for normal saltwater reef? been also looking at the TECO TK3000 or Tradewind il-120-s (inline). Would prefer a unit that can be plumbed outside the house. none of them have reviews online!! no idea how either company are tank is in Los Angeles, so chiller will be running all year long. any recommendation or suggestions? thanks!

I live right on the equator, and will never ever run a off the shelf chiller. The heat and the noise are killing me. Considering the size of chiller you are looking for, split unit conventional a/c is the best choice. You need to source out the titanium coil, thermostat and an outdoor split unit. Get an a/c guy to put it together. That will be my choice if i need to rethink about chiller again.

do you have any pictures of your setup? I kinda get what you are saying, but can't picture it. the coil goes inside the sump? I don't know how AC works.

I'm in SW Florida (93F EVERY day for 3 months+) and I've had a 1hp AquaEuro chiller outside behind my house for 6+ years now. It's inside a plastic storage cabinet that is vented at both ends for better air flow. And it's on a north wall so it's in the shade all the time. I had a 400+ gallon system (2 DT and big sump) with 1500 watts of MH, 200 watts of t5 and we keep the house at 80 to 82 degrees for 6 to 8 months. The chiller doesn't work as much now that I've gone full led, but it has performed flawlessly so far.

I use an Ecoplus Commercial 1.5HP chiller. It looks like the outdoor section of a split unit but the coil is built into it. I have it plumbed outside.

I'm in south florida and with just a small fan I havent had to use a chiller for the past few years although we keep the A/C inside at 78 deg and I have LED's. Where do you keep your house temp?

Do you guys have your tanks in the garage or have the display in your house while the rest is in your garage? I'm following along because I'm planning to have the display in my 1st floor and the sump and supplemental stuff in the garage.
I wonder how much lower the water temp will be compared to the ambient room temp due to this kind of set up? |

I recently got the 1.5 horsepower tradewinds Chiller. I got close to another brand but this is all done for long term stability. I wanted the chiller to be outside and not heat the house. Although it has only gone on a few times.( no lights yet). I am liking this as if it does brake I can call any AC guy or drive it down to them as they are in Escondito. I have a neighbor who is an electrian so it did not add an extra expense of going higher voltage. I have a good friend that has his now for 7 years and it works like new.
This may help a little as it was discussed not to long ago. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hlight=chiller
