Post your ATI 8x80 bulb combo!

Hey guys

Im new to t5 and trying to find the best bulb combo for my ATI 8x80 60 inch for my 72x30x24.

Trying to grow sps on top and LPS on the bottom.

Not really into the all blue look. I Kinda like a red pink look.

As an FYI, no picture will ever truly depict what a bulb combo looks like. There are so many factors that go into what we see on a computer screen. Monitor calibration, ambient light, photographer skill, camera used, settings used, etc etc. Even if the photographer balances things out it still only shows what THEY see on THEIR monitor. A slight calibration difference on your end can skew the whole thing.

A good place to start with 8 bulbs is usually 5 Blue Plus, 2 Purple Plus and 1 Coral Plus. Buy an extra Coral Plus and Purple and mess around. Just make sure you give each combo you try a few days to settle in and for things to adjust.

Just curious, but isn't the usual recommendation to only go with 1 Purple Plus and either 2 Coral Plus or 1 Coral Plus and 1 Actinic?

I'm also trying to find a good bulb combination as I'm currently using 4 Blue Plus, 1 Purple Plus, 2 Coral Plus and 1 Actinic (similar to what ATI recommends for a 16000K look, except replacing a Coral Plus with an Actinic), and I find that my tank is much too white for my liking. My wife comments that it looks like a freshwater tank.

Also, in an SPS tank, it's usually recommended to go with at least 1 Actinic for the luminescence right?

Thanks!

You've basically got 4 blue and 3 white bulbs. This will look much more 12-14k. The actinic is semi pointless when all lights are on for overall look.

I like actinic bulbs more than most but they're really only good for dusk dawn. They are easily overpowered.

As far as SPS and actinic goes, remember that your pure actinic bulb is only hitting so much of your tank. For fuller coverage you'd need 2 or more and that's pointless IMO. The Blue Plus bulbs have plenty of actinic range in them.

For how your tank looks, what order are the bulbs in? Just changing order around can trick the human eye.

However, if you want more blue then go with something like 6 blue plus and 2 coral plus and see what you think. You could switch a coral plus to a purple plus as well.

Here is a link to what ATI recommends for different K factors.

Look for the question What bulb combinations do you recommend

So I bought a case of blue plus and coral plus. 10 bulbs each case. Should last me 2 years I hope. I also bought 1 purple plus to play around with it.

Where should I add the purple plus?

Thanks!

Thank you. I was thinking of increasing it to 5 or 6 blue plus. Does the coral plus have enough red to make pinks pop or is the purple plus needed for that?

Current order on my 8x 80w Powermodule Hybrid is:

+++Front+++
B+
C+
B+
Actinic
4x LED
P+

+++Back+++

One of my favorite 8 bulb combos is 6 blue plus and 2 purple plus. You can also switch 2 blues for actinic if you like that look. The LEDs can bring in white and some shimmer

It won't effect the light output. You can also easily replace the reflectors. Have the vendor send you new reflectors and install them

Ugh I understand that I could do this, but I paid alot of money for a product that I expected to come in pristine condition.

I'll have it switched out tomorrow hopefully. The wholesaler that sold it to me is close to me.

Yeah I understand that completely and agree. I was just letting you know it shouldn't really affect anything

Gotcha. That's what I was thinking too when I felt too lazy to take it back hahaha. Glad all my bulbs were delivered safely though.

Thanks for the advice though bud!

My LEDs are currently only on at 20% as I was told they can easily be too intense and bleach my corals. I'll need to slowly increase the intensity over time.

Won't 2x purple plus end up being too purple/red? I was told that purple plus was a bulb to put only 1 of for red highlights. For white, most have advised coral plus, while a few like aquablue special (I was told that aquablue special is "true full spectrum" while coral plus wasn't).

Where were you able to buy a case and how many in a case and how much?

I have a connection with a wholesaler. I forgot the price but it came out to be like 13 a bulb.
