Tank temp.
Hello everyone. My name is Tim Manning. I am in the Orlando area.
I have been running my tank at 75 degrees. I have a mixed reef and four small fish. What temp are some of you guys running at and why? |

I keep mine at about 77-78 year around. Although that (and 75) is a little on the low side of normal, it is closer to where I keep the house so the AC doesn't have to work quite so hard in the summer to keep it cool. IMO, an advantage of keeping it a bit on the cooler side is increased dissolved oxygen and therefore a greater safety margin if/when things do go wrong.
The bottom line is, however, that anywhere in the 74-82 range will work as long as it is stable. It is the fluctuations that will cause you troubles.

I run mine at 77-82. I lower temps in winter and increase them in summer. BTW, if you add 2 clip on fans to blow over surface of DT and sump, you can lower tank temps significantly enough to save some $ on central air.

79-81F from spring through fall.
Occasionally in the winter it will get lower since we don't need to run the A/C and the house gets cooler.

77-82.
Pretty much what ever temp the tanks take on from the ambient room temp. It varies over the course of a year, but never much in a day, or even a week.

I run mine 76-78 which is closer to the ambient temperature in my apartment. 76 is fall to winter time and 78 is summer and spring. I also use fans blowing across the water surface of the main tank, but more so in summer. I have no facts or proof, but it seems to help my heaters run less and to me that is a good thing.

77-78 in the summer. Thinking about dropping to to 76-77 in the winter.

I keep my heater set at 79, but during the hotter days it can get up to 83 but haven't had any issues... Used to run it higher (81-82) but seemed the norm was slightly lower so I dropped my heater to 79. Haven't noticed any difference though.
