Quick cycle of qt tank

Hi If I use a piece of sponge out of my cannister on my DT (yes a canister filter) which has been on the tank for a round six months and I use only tank water to rinse it out to help maintain all the bacteria, and then use it in another little filter in my QT tank does this instanly cycle the tank?

No, it does not instantly cycle the tank. It very well can shorten the cycle. It may be a mini-cycle, but you will some type of cycle. I would recommend also maybe thrown a little of live sand and a piece of live rock to help.

In addition to that you could use Bio Spira. It seems to work very well.
