How to achieve a best flows....want to change for good

Dear All,

My DT 90cm x 60cm x 60cm, presently I have one MP40wes on one end and a RW 15 on the other end. I feel my flow is not enough as some distinct dead spot in some corner . I try to put both pump at one end (over flows end) to haul detritus towards to over flows but I observed flows are too strong when it bounce back , some softies and LPS looks not so happy with it.

Wish to change all flows system or corrected it with the right pattern or sync with additional smaller pump , any advise ?

I have heard some one using instead of two strong pump they rather use 4 smaller pumps , if I need to change I opted for tunze, any advise on the model/s ?

Cheers,

MS

You could tuck a korallia nano 525 in the area you feel as though you are having a dead spot. But Based on the pumps you are running in that size tank, I would think you have plenty of flow.

Thanks Mpierce for your kind feedback.

As you said that the size of my pumps is good enough to my tank size , if so , I wonder what will be the best location :

1) place both pump in both end as usual ? And add a small pump to the location that need more flow

2) place both pump at one side ( overflow side) so that the flows once bounce back will bring (haul) the detritus towards the overflow and then finally drained out to the sump ? And I presumed same as one to add one more smaller pump to the part that has low flow ?

Cheers,

I personally set up pumps the way you have them, one on each end facing each other. Helps to randomize flow where the currents collide. Then I add more flow in areas that I think need it. You could look at the maxspect gyre pumps, They seem to do a good job of decreasing dead spots, however I have not used one so I can not say from personal experience.

However, I wouldn't concern too much about it. I think you have plenty of flow for your corals, which is what is important. Just use a turkey baster and blast the areas where you are having detritus buildup once a week to keep them clean.

My tank is 90cm long x 45cm wide x 40cm tall (150 litres) and I use 2 mp10 pumps facing each other in front of my rock structure and 2 korallia nano 525 facing each other behind my rock structures and I still get some small areas where detritus builds up in the corner. But my pumps are strong enough to blow around sand when they (mp10) ramp up to full power.
