Wonderful job on your rebuild I've always admired your stand since I saw it on your last tank.

Thank you!
I'm feeling pretty lucky I got to keep it, thought the buyer of that tank was going to take it, luckily we worked a deal on my building them a custom inwall instead.
On top of that I got real lucky in being able to cut this cabinet and canopy down from a 5' tank to the dims of a 4' tank, w/out breaking it.
I had to take 6" off each side to keep the octo centered, and I could not do it on my nice miter saw, had to do it w/ a skilsaw and a rip guide, and I was sweating bullets as I did it!

I bet it was nerve racking. I can't imagine the time that you spent on the original design of that stand. It's awesome.

I'm working on a 125 build right now myself. A leemar tank with a steel stand. Just need to figure out how I want to wrap the stand. Would like to do something like you have done with yours. Where I have access to the stand from all side.

Sorry not trying to high jack your thread with my build.

No sweat, my stand is freestanding, it slides right in place, pulls out if needed, but looks and feels like it is mounted solid.
It's just basically a U shape of solid 1x, you could easily do similar.
If you wanted more secure you could draw screws from the inside, a couple would be all you need, or some people do magnets.

Yes, the octopus was freehand cut w/ a jigsaw and took a long time to sand smooth, so much work, I doubt I will do anything similar again.
I'm a carpenter for a living, it really is the last thing I wish to do on my weekends normally.

I've followed a lot of your posts and seen how it was originally built. So I have an idea of how its done. I also have read in one of your posts that you were a carpenter. I've thought about skinning my stand and attaching it both ways. I am undecided in which way I want to go with. Right now I'm wanting to get my tank cycling first then I'll probably worry about it skin the stand.

Thanks and back at ya, Oceanside comes w/ a lot of good memories of some great surf among other things.
This is my first shot of taking a vid of my newish tank at what is now about 4mo old.
It's about ready and in need of some nice sps at top, that is next on my list, but this is what it is as of yesterday, still not bad to look at.
Cheers!

The tank is looking good, and you did a great job with the video color balance. I love your schooling fish too. Now all you need to do is get some SPS to replace your starter Flubber

I'm growing out a bunch of frags right now

Yeah, I like frog and hammer and always start w/ that, but I think it's time to trade some of that for some sticks.

So the latest on my tank...
Once again they sold the home I was renting so I had to move again.
First the good news, my trick w/ the plastic underneath the concrete pad worked like a charm as always, pulled that crete pad up in one piece and not a hint of it's existence on the floor, broke it in pieces outside, dumped in trash, landlord never had a clue it was ever done.
Now, the bad news...
Had everything in a temporary holding tank so I could finish a clients remodel by deadline promised, it only needed one more week, somehow my anemone got past the crate barrier and went into pump, nuked EVERYTHING.
I'm now starting all over...

That is the thing about anemone's that freaks me out; I love them but man they can just be home wreckers!

Not all anemones are the same, I chose a magnifica for the reason they do not wander like some others, just perch high on a rock w/ good light and stable params and they normally stay put.
The issue here was due to holding tank and insufficient light in that holding tank, that's why it wandered.
I was just hoping I could get my tank set up properly soon enough to avoid that.

Nice, similar tank, same height and depth, just a foot longer, you'll be happy you went w/ an SCA, and now they do custom boring so you will have more options for drain and overflow.
Best deal going on a starfire glass tank IMO

Hey Davocean,
Can you tell me the footprint dimension of the overflow in that 120?
I'm almost done with my stand for my new SCA 150 but still need to cut the opening in the top for the plumbing (tank hasn't arrived yet).

Mine's 5 1/4"x 8 1/4" but you should double check w/ SCA as mine was one of the first ones built, they may have made changes since then, I know they give better drain options now

Thanks Davo,
Tank is just a couple days out so I'll take your advice and finish the stand minus that cut for now.
Appreciate you checking none the less!
