new tank has been sitting stagnant, water still good?
hey guys just looking for some advice on a tank, I setup my 125g tank and everything and filled it with water and had the salinity right. didnt add anything to it except the sand. something came up and i never finished it but most of the water is still there only some of it evaporated out. There is a film on top with some crap on the surface of the water from sitting stagnant. Nothing was ever added only sand, no fish, rock or anything. Can I use the water in there and just make sure salinity goes back to normal and just let the filtration system take care of crap in the water? I have a 55 gallon sump with a giant skimmer.
thanks for any help |

I am no expert (newbie myself) but my recommendation would be to ditch the water and start fresh. Maybe one of the experts will chime in.

I wouldn't use it and once empty the tank to be cleaned. Who knows what is growing in it.

In the scheme of things, that's not very much salt and water. Personally I'd ditch it just to be safe.

It's probably not that big of a deal. You're always going to get a protein slick on the top surface without movement. The only thing that could be growing in there is bacteria.
Wouldn't hurt to swap all of the water but IMO I don't think it is that big of a deal. I'd just carry on. Tank is going to need a cycle anyways, just change it out after the cycle. Heck it may already be well on its way. If the tank had previously been running it would be different.
