So you are moving? or something?
Why do you think something must die? No reason IMO that everything can't be moved and make it..

Yes moving next month..what worries me is the cold temperatures, the long drive, also kind of clueless on how to properly bag them up.
I know corals and fish get shipped a lot but what worries me is the corals melting on me and the fish stressing due to cold temp and lack if oxygen. Also my friend that introduced me into the hobby said it won't make it.. I've had my tank running for a few years now so would hate to lose it...so you believe that I should be fine that actually makes me real happy to hear that as if now I'll be looking into ways to make it happen |

#1-Unless you are traveling in a convertible car or open wagon the temps shouldn't be an issue.. I assume you stay comfortable while driving.. The critters will too..
Some nice "blow in" insulation/newspaper,etc.. around the bags will help quite a bit too.. A heat pack wouldn't hurt either.. Corals should all be put into bags,etc.. with NO air in them to avoid them tipping/going into the air only section of a bag.. Fish it doesn't matter much as they will move to/with the water.. Critters are shipped all the time.. in bags/cold weather,etc.. I believe its entirely possible to have everything live.. Good luck.. You can do it!!! oh and you do know you are moving backwards right.. Everyone goes TO Florida from New York.. Not the other way around.. And wait till you see how people from New York/Jersey drive on 95... They think they own the left hand lane and will stick to it the whole way up 95.. Left lane is a "passing lane".. Florida drivers aren't much better though..

Thanks for the support and encouragement on this ..I will head to my Lfs tommorow and see if I can buy a few of they're bags and will also get some newspapers and some hand warmers ...should the tank be completely empty for transport or leaving some water and some rock should be fine..
Also should I save as much of my water for the reset or should I bring as much premade saltwater with me..this whole time I've been relying on my Lfs for water source so won't be able to make my own once I get there..praying the Lfs in ny sells some..if not I'll have to settle with distiller water and buying a block of salt and learn how to mix.. As of now I'll be taking all my livestock except for my smaller frags plus the strawberry dotty(what a pain I though only damsels where the only devils)would putting everything in boxes be fine or should I buy a few styrofoam coolers? I'm originally from New York and been living in fl for the past ten and enjoyed my time here but feeling like its time to come home to family..not looking forward to the drive nor the snow but it's time for me...thanks for the great advice mcgyver |

I would put the rock in 5 gallon buckets and cover with tank water, and toss most of the sand. Save a pound or 2 to seed the new sandbed
