Aiptasia on feather duster
I bought a new Atlantic feather duster and just noticed that there's an aiptasia anemone growing on its tube -- lower down where the sand starts to collect on the tube.
Is there a safe way of removing it without harming the feather duster? Is kalk paste safe? Should I just take it back to the store? Thanks. |

If its close to the base of the tube and if you have sand, you can bury it under sand. Just make sure at least 1/3 of the dusters tube is above sand. About a week later, remove the duster, aiptasia will either be dead and decomposed, or it will atleast let go of the tube since they try to move when stressed. Then and you can easily remove it.

If you burry the aiptasia in the sand ,it wont die.It will just move above the sand .Better use kalk paste, let it to kill the aiptasia for 15-30 minutes with the pumps turned off. Then remouve the dead aiptasia and the kalk (altough this is not necessary).

You can paste it in a dish..
Or you can just let it be and see what happens.. Or you can get a peppermint shrimp which should eat it eventually.. Personally I don't do a darn thing for only one aiptasia..

When I had an Aiptasia on a coral frag, I burned it off with a lighter. It worked fine.
