Re-establishing tank after large leak..Cycle again?
My 220 gallon reef tank has been up for 5 or 6 years. One of the hoses leaked and water spilled onto the wood floor. The insurance is likely going to replace the floor. I was going to move the rock/corals/livestock to large totes in the garage while the work is being done. I am hopeful I will not have significant loss during the process.
The tank will be moved during the install of the floor. Will I have to cycle the tank again when I place all the stuff back in the tank?

Not if you keep all the live rock in reasonably good condition. You may want to consider replacing any sand or at least washing what you have very well. The point is that you don't want to stir up more organics than your current system can handle.
BTW, you should think about the fact that making a claim against insurance for something they consider to be your fault will likely go down as a black mark. Two black marks and you may find it more difficult to get insurance. It may be cheaper to replace the floor yourself. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Definitely true. They will may drop you or at least try to raise your rate and if you go to get new insurance the new company will ask if you have had any claims. Had it happen to me. Probably ended up costing me more than if I just fixed my issue myself. Definitely a ridiculous system. For your tank, I think you'll be fine. I'd replace the sand and just feed lightly at first. |

Thanks for the advice on the insurance. I was worried about a damaged subtfloor. Turns out that just the hardwood needs to be replaced. So far, the insurance company has been helpful. I will keep my fingers crossed.
The adjuster did come out and they will likely replace the hardwood in the entire house if they cannot find a match. That would be a 10k job.

10k is large enough to file a claim. Less than 5k, don't bother. Two claims in 10 years is really bad...
