online fish delivery

I Ordered a couple fish and a anemone from live aquaria and the shipment just showed up while I am stuck at work. my wife brought it inside but I wont be home until about 4:30 to take care of it.

My wife is home but Knows nothing about dealing with the tank. Should I have her open the box and put the bags in the sump or should I just wait till I get home?

Tell her leave it alone. And don't try to warm it. Cool (not cold) is best, and an unopened shipping bag is a safe bag until opened. After bag is opened and co2 escapes, ph shifts, causing ammonium excreted by fish/critters to turn to lethal ammonia within 30 minutes.

+1. They'll be fine until you get home. When I order stuff from LA or DD, I usually ship to my wife's work since she works close to the house and goes home for lunch. She leaves it in the house until I get home around 5:30 or 6.

thanks everyone. I ended up having one dead banggai cardinal in the bag and another died in the tank last night but everyone else is doing great.

Next question. I got a bubble tip anemone that ended up behind the rock for a while and after a few hours he moved onto a cave in the rock where I can barely see him. He is still there this morning and It looks like a tight fit and he may have trouble getting out. Do I need to worry about it or should I leave him alone for a few days?

how old is your tank? a nem needs a well-established tank and shouldn't be added to a tank that's less than 9-12 months old. nems don't get "stuck", they can get out of what looks like a tight space so you should not try to move it. moving them just ticks them off. also, if you have any power heads, make sure they are all covered so the nem can't get sucked in. that can cause a real mess!!

just an fyi...there is a sub-forum dedicated to nems where you can get lots of experts to answer your questions.

I would leave the anemone alone as it's acclimating to its new home.

Great info, I was wondering about this too as I'm nearing my first online order. Will save me the $15 I was planning on spending for the Saturday delivery.

If you are ordering on a Friday, pay for the $15 Saturday delivery. 3 days between shipping and when you receive the order will most likely result in heavy losses.

I think if you do not pay the $15, the vendor will likely just wait til Monday to ship for a Tuesday delivery

This is a fact. I've Placed many orders with Divers Den on Thursday evenings. They don't start the animal acclimation process until Monday morning for the Monday night shipment that arrives on Tuesday. I always track my package the morning of delivery on the ups site. When I see it's arrived I leave work and drip acclimate and come back to work when I'm done. Otherwise I'd shell out the money for Sat. delivery.

Also, Leave the BTA alone. It will hide until it's ready to come out. You mess with it and it will stress out and die.

Does this apply to breather bags?
