Filter sock size
Can I use a 4 inch filter sock on a 90 gallon fowlr?

you will be fine. worst thing that will happen is you will need to change it more. I use them on my 180 because it makes me change them more often

I usually go with something that's 7x12 or taller. But 7 inches across is good. And of course they are a lot cheaper if you buy them on line from a non-aquarium source.

I use twin 4" socks on a 150g. One does most of the works though

I use two 4" socks on my 80 gal, they do clog rather fast so I would think a single 4" sock would require very frequent maintenance.

It really depends on what micro you will be using as well. With smaller size you will have less flow and vice versa. But you also want it fine enough to catch all the junk too. Normal size is around 200 microns.

Yes, you can. I use dual 4's on my 240 system(box made to run them in series). I get 3 days out of 100 micron and 4 out of 200 on the main sock.. The secondary usually lasts for a week..

I use 50 and 100 micron socks for about 6 or more years. They keep my sump so clean, I could never imagine going back to not using socks.
