White Stripe vs Gold Stripe Maroon

White stripe maroons are probably my favorite clownfish, if appearance is the only factor, but I've always been told that they're ferocious serial killers who will make life hell for the other fish in their tank. I've long held this hope that Mr. Saltwater Tank was right in one of his older videos covering the livestock of his 90g when he said something along the lines of "extreme aggression is only true for the gold stripe variety", when talking about his beloved white stripe maroon. Does this hold any truth? Would keeping a single female as opposed to a pair, help to make the maroon a more tolerant tank mate? Personally, I hate the look of gold stripes, I can't help but think they look like a standard maroon clown that got dropped into a urinal Thanks guys

Same species, so I would think that the behavior would be the same.

One specimen would have a smaller territory than a pair, especially a breeding pair.

I may be wrong, I think the difference is just the collection point. Both are very aggressive, IME.

In my experience maroon clowns will be aggressive when they are hosting a bta. But depending on the tank size it would not be a problem.

With that said, if they are the first fish in the tank they will be very aggressive because they would feel the entire tank is their territory.

I have one (gold stripe) with various fish from small to large and it was purchased towards the end of my collection and its been a model citizen.

I'd second this... I have a pair in a 1200l and they are great... they keep the damsels in check but ignore everything else. There was a fair bit of aggression when they were first put in and it took them about 2 months to stake out their favoured spot and territory... since then they've been perfect. Both are white stripe... I've never had gold stripe but assuming they are the same species (I'm not a taxonomic expert) their behaviour should be the same.

I had a maroon pair for years and they were nice to the rest of their tank mates - they were even the first ones in the tank. I'd just try to have the maroons have their own little territory in the tank with their rtba.
