what brand for good quality protein skimmer

I have AquaC protein skimmer that doesn't skim much lately. So far I couldn't find the cause. I am considering buying the largest high quality skimmer that would fit inside my stand.
PLease give me recommendations for manufacturers, and any other pointers for making a smart selection.

thank you

Yehuda

Bubble king and ATB come to mind for highest quality build and highest quality material

Bk or ATB for performance
Reef octopus for cheap but good bang

Personally I'd try to find a used BK or ATB

A lot of people like LifeReef skimmers. I haven't had mine very long, but I'm definitely impressed so far.

Everybody will have their own opinion here. You are probably better off listing some you are considering, then getting feedback that way.

I would add AquaMaxx to the list, well built, quality parts at a fairly reasonable cost.

Aqua-c???? Which one?
What do we have to compare to here?
What size tank?
Bio load?
why is it performing poorly?

+1 for LifeReef, if you are looking for consistent skimming, low maintenance and easy to dial in.

lifereef. sometimes old proven tech just works. I bought a used lifereef over 15 years ago and never used it until recently. I fell into the hype of needle wheel and cone technology. I replaced my fancy shmanzy skimmer with the one that sat on my shelf forever and could not be more impressed.

Life reef seems to have a following. That's to be sure.
What if, the aqua-c in question is a down draft skimmer? What if the pump is undersized or things are just in need of cleaning or tweaking?

Lifereef skimmers are awesome. You can use any pump you want, they are easy to maintain, and they work really well. Set and forget. Plus you can upgrade the skimmer down the road by just ordering an extension and bigger pump. You don't have to buy a whole new skimmer..

Add another lifereef fan. Have had 4 total over the years. Tried a BK and then went back.

I will give a vote for MTC. The MTC and Life Reef are in the opinion of everyone who has owned one of them are the best bet in the market. Hers a link to the MTC lovers thread.

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2519839

I have had both the Life Reef and now an MT MVX and put it a nudge above lifeReef, for construction.
