Heater/s in sump tank question

I have a 29 gallon tank and i'm moving that into a 75 gallon tank and right now I'm building my sump(a 20 long tank). The heater I'm looking at and really like is the Eheim Jager 150w and it's rated for tanks 53-79 gallons but it's 13.4in long so I won't be able to put it vertically in my sump because my tallest baffle is only going to be 10in and if I put it horizontally then it will take up too much room for the refuge.

So one of my questions is, if I put it diagonally and then later on when I get a protein skimmer and build a small shelf and put the protein skimmer top of that over the heater, will that be ok? Or will that be too much heat for it?

And then if that's not a good idea my other question is, if I got two 75w Jager heaters(10.2in long) even though they're rated for tanks 16-26 gallons and put them in my sump, will that heat the tank up the same as the 150w Jager heater?

Is your 75 a pre-drilled tank with overflow? I have a 250W Jager and that's where I keep mine.

I used mine diagonally but I probably have a larger sump than you do. There is a line on the heater which must be submerged also on the jagers so diagonally can be a challenge. I actually have mine now in the refugium chamber on mine horizontally. I have thought about moving mine to the overflow like suggested by GimpyFin as I have a Reef Ready tank so much easier for me to do so.

I actually have a 200 Jager on my 75-gallon and it does just fine. I went bigger cause I have about 25 gallons in my sump so I'm close to 100 gallons total. I went a bit bigger cause I didn't want my heater running 24/7 but I also run it on inkbird temp controller to avoid any overheating issues.

Sorry I meant putting the heater diagonally laying down on the bottom instead of just going across horizontally and then putting a little shelf with a protein skimmer on top of that. That would save me 4 inches that I could use for my refuge.

My heaters are in my sump at an angle and I've never had an issue. Just keep en eye on the placement and keep the water level constant. Shouldn't be an issue.

The heater should be fine under your skimmer, assuming you have reasonable flow through your sump and the skimmer shelf isn't really close to the heater. Two smaller heaters is a better setup. With two small heaters, there is less risk of cooking your tank if one of them sticks on.

I would go with 2-100 watt ones as two 75 would be underpowered.

The actual safest method would be two smaller heaters and a heater temp controller. I run one larger but I also run a temp controller also. However my heater doesn't run 24/7 maybe 8-12 hours tops because when my MH lights are on the heater rarely runs but never goes over 78 degrees. The other alternative is picking a different style or brand of heater that isn't as long.
