Biocube29 Lighting Question

I have a Biocube 29 that I have upgraded to LEDs from RapidLED. The Heat sync has its own fan and the other two fans provide cooling.

The Question is this. The LEDs sit 2.5 inches above the water. Is the Splashguard necessary? With the Splashguard I have a harder time controlling heat. Without I do not.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,

Dave

the unit is not waterproof so should a fish jump or any splash and you can short out the lights. Yes the guard is needed.
