Cyano problem
Hi, I have had a Red Sea max e260 for just over a year now . I have had all sorts of start up problems but eventually learned what to do etc. I currently have a cyano issue. It's not very bad but I'm trying to get rid of it . I have been dosing coral snow and cyano clear for 3 weeks now and wondering if I'm flushing money down the pan. As it doesn't seem to be working . I do regular water changes I feed once a day frozen. I have filter socks which I clean regular . I'm running carbon rowaphos and bio pellets all in there own reactors . I don't want to use chemicals for a reason apart from I don't like chemicals . Just want some advice . Am I doing something wrong am I over feeding am I missing something ?
Thank you in advance |

Re-evaluate your flow... cyano hates flow
You can syphon/scrub it off during water changes I also had a small cyano issue.. took a couple weeks but it kind of took care of itself after changing flow direction and syphoning out. You go lights out too which can help.. but the above 2 took care of it for me... |

I would check and adjust flow and then go lights out, darkness kills it. My last tank I battled it for a few weeks until I did this.

The cyano could be in a low or dead flow spot. You will just have to look at it. Sorry, but I don't know anything about cyano clear or coral snow so I can't help you there.

After months of battle Cyano myself I got rid of it in 3-days using Chemi-clean.

I think it's a possibility I might have to go down the same route . Let me go lights out and if that does not work I will have to think about chemical route as it's starting to get onto corals which is annoying .

Cyano will only recede after a blackout to come back a few days later. Cyano is a bacteria and has to be treated as such.

I had success by decreasing feedings to once every other day and the amounts as well. I alternate between frozen combo of Rods/Mysis and Hikari and New Life Spectrum pellets. I also increased the flow a bit in my Phos reactor to a bit more than a small tumble. Using RowaPhos as well and I like it. Be sure to rinse that frozen food for a good 2-3 minutes in a cup of warm aquarium water and strain out the water.
