Ormond By The Sea

Ormond By The Sea,.. very close to Daytona beach, FL,. first week of June. I will be fishing and crab'ing,. but I was wondering, if there is anything I can catch that will live in my saltwater systems. I have a couple of tanks,. 90 reef, 75 fresh,. lots of tanks empty. Any suggestions?

If you are going fishing and crabing, I'll assume you have the proper State of Florida Saltwater Fishing License, otherwise be prepared for a really big fine!

I suspect there are a number of things you could collect and keep. But how do you plan to collect them? And how do you get them home? BTW, where is home? And do you want things that are predators? There are a lot of crabs and mollusks that will not be reef safe. I seriously doubt that you'll find corals that far north. Serpent stars, sea cucumbers, emerald crabs, snails, maybe a gorgonian or an anemone?

And there is an extensive list of things you CAN NOT collect, and even more stuff that has STRICT LIMITS on how many you can take. Get checked by FWC with the wrong stuff and it will ruin your vacation! Even small stuff carry very big fines. And yes, they do check. I've been stopped and inspected 4 times now, but then I know the rules as well as the FWC rangers do. So I've never been fined.
