What is this???

Just picked this out of tank. only a tiny branch was sticking out of sand. Anyone know what it is?

Jesse may very well be right, but it doesn't look like any spaghetti worm I've ever seen. If I were you, I'd be looking at every spaghetti worm image I could find. Google spaghetti worm images and see what you think, before you consider putting it back.

Does it move at all? If it is a Spaghetti worm each one of those strands should have a mind of it's own so to say. Always seeking out food. If it doesn't move then it might just be a tuft of algae of some sort. FWIW it looks a little too "full" to be a worm IMO, but it might be.

Looks like the root system of a plant..
Any mangroves or other aquatic plants in the tank?
