Ghl profilux alk and cal monitoring?

Just read on the ghl forum some of the specs of the new ghl profilux 4. It states that calc and alk monitoring coming soon. Does anybody have any insight on this? With all the troubles I've been heRing about the apex this might just be the tipping point to get people over to ghl.

I'm excited. It looks nice. This will give apex a run for its money. Apex is also looking at turning out an alk monitor based on JimWelsh's prototype. Who will come out first!

It says DELIVERY BEGINS: December 19, 2016 on the profilux4. So I guess the real question is will it launch with the Cal/Alk features in December? It says on the Check List the Cal/Alk is in preparation. Maybe GHL has been working on it longer and just kept it a secret.

This would be a pretty huge step for aquarium controllers if it actually works. I've never owned a controller, but this would make me seriously consider one.

Well, then the question is will this be like the PinPoint Calcium monitor, which has been our for years, which has many poor reviews on actually using it

Also, will this be an actual alkalinity result or calculated like the mindstream.

I think that's the biggest question. How reliable and accurate are the readings? I don't think it will take years as we have already seen Jim Welsh's prototype for ALK. The question is how do you make an affordable, good looking and accurate monitor which appeals to reefers? Also Jim Welsh prototype is just and Alkalinity Monitor and Not a Cal Monitor like GHL claims to be working on also.

GHL just released some more news on their upcoming Alkalinity and Calcium monitoring feature!

According to their post on another forum, they've been working on continuous Alk and Ca monitoring for the past 2 years and tests have been going well. They are expecting to release it sometime during the first half of 2017. To top it off, this feature will also be available for the Profilux 3.

While I am pretty heavily invested in Apex this is AWESOME news. It is so promising to see the vendors going down these routes as it benefits us all.

And heck if this proves to come out well in advance of Apex (or if apex forces me to upgrade to new unit to get their alk testing) I might have to make the switch over and get some other new equipment.

The backwards compatable is what excites me. I have been using the Profilux 3.1 ex for a number of years and it would be nice if I don't have to change to the 4.

IF GHL has indeed been working on this for around 2 years they have a pretty huge head start then and as far as I have seen Apex is only working on ALK and not a Calcium monitor. I've never owned a controller and this might be the tipping scale for me to consider one in the future. Again, if it works and does so on being reliable.

Oh, how times change!

I am really excited about this, though. I also really like the backwards compatibility with 3.1.

I am not GHL specialist.
But I do Automation for WTP & WWTP.

The main controller is not the special part.

Its the method of detection is what is important.
I would not be surprise the unit will just be a PAB connected.

Its not going to be probe, no one has made one to my knowledge, even in the industrial world does not have one.
I have two guesses.

It is going to be doser or fluorescent based, maybe both.

Is this happening? Or, were they going to buy Jim Welsh's product and don't know what to do now that Neptune bought it?

GHL has been working on it for a couple of years now. Now we just wait till it is fully baked.

It's happening.. As reefwiser said, they have been working on it for a long time. My guess is that we will hear more if not see something at MACNA.

Do you think that they will release both monitoring on the new profilux 4 and 3.1 at the same time or unveil it on the 4 first?

Hard to say. I heard it would be supported on both and if it's a matter of the alk monitor being connected to a pH port than I would think both at the same time but strangers things have happened. All we can do is speculate at this time. I am sure we will know more soon and as I said, MACNA would be the most likely venue for more news on it.
