Pre mixed saltwater go bad ?

I missed last weeks waterchange and have had water mixing with a powerhead and heater for like 9 days now. There is a little oily film floating on the top. Is this water ok to use still ?

Usually i mix salt and water in evening add heater and next day i do waterchange so i havnt had this happen befor.

Thanks

You can take clean (unscented) paper towel and skim the film off the top of the water.

It doesn't go bad when in your tank, why would it go bad in the storage tank? As long as it is circulating.

I would also check that the power head is still running. When those burn up they will sometimes leak oil into the water...in which case I would discard the water altogether.

Oily film throw the water away. Not worth taking a chance on it.

What kind of salt are you using? I wouldn't really worry about it if it's just from the salt. I would worry about it if you think it could have been contaminated with something externally. Some of the "reef" salts contain additional minerals that may cause some film and/or browning in the tank -- it's no big deal. Personally, I wouldn't even bother running it through a filter sock.
