Powerheads?
Hey everybody how's it going just had a question about my powerheads and where to position them on my tank for the best results with corals and so my fish can enjoy swimming in the current too. So basically my tank is a 60 gallon and dimensions are 13X48X25, I bought 5 powerheads that push 530 gph and I have two wavemakers that sync together simultaneously. What would be the best positioning for the powerheads and what type of flow ie. one big circular flow or alternating currents? Thanks

5 powerheads and 2 wavemakers seems like overkill for a 60 gallon to me but better to have too much flow than not enough.
that said, personally I prefer alternating currents. Best positioning, if I used powerheads (I currently have a gyre) I would have them high and low so one head high in the tank on say the back then one low in the front or vice versa and then have them pointing towards the middle of the tank. have that on both ends of the tank and get them alternating between each side and you should be good |

I agree. That does seem like potentially a lot of flow. I like to place them in back corners in the top 3rd of the tank pointing out towards the center. I also like to have 1 possibly two down low running across the back of the tank and across the front of the tank. This helps keep my detritus in suspension a little better.

For comparison I have a 90 gallon with one wave maker on each end and one small power head positioned in a corner to avoid a dead spot. Five power heads and two wave makers are overkill. Either your sand is blowing all over the place or the angles are off. You shouldn't need that many.

Lol, way overkill...Use 2 max in that size of an aquarium.
