Advice on spot feeding Euphyllia
This is for those that spot feed Euphyllia. Currently have a hammer coral with poor polyp extension. For a year it was great, I fed it and it went from the 1 head I bought to 14 heads. Full extension such that you couldn't discern the heads, just looked like one giant bush. About 7 months ago I decided I didn't need to spot feed, that it was doing great and it was just more effort and nutrients anyway, and in the following months it lost it's PE down to about 30%.
I've been trying different lighting and flow with no change, and after research and another couple of threads on reef central, i've come to the conclusion this is now the most likely reason. I have a pretty low low nutrient tank. Never had a value above zero with phos and nitrate in the 2 years the tanks been up (apart from cycling). Throughout that time i've used salifert, api, and hanna phos checker. I have some montipora, poccilopora and a maxima clam that are great and growing like weeds. My question is for those that feed their euphyllia. What is the most I can feed it? Can I feed it too much and hurt it? (I'm not worried about water quality, just academic and want to know the max they can intake, it will take as much mysis as I give it) Is each head connected? Must you feed every head? If you miss some, are they connected and the other heads will benefit from the nutrients? This is something I've never seen addressed anywhere. Lastly, if anybody has had as similar situation, assuming this is the reason it has poor PE, how long after beginning regular feeds should I expect to see it return to its full plump form again? Attached is a pic of it's current status. Thanks in advance!!!! |

You would have to feed each head. It could help being you have very low nutrients.
