Return line question

I just bought a new tank that came with a bunch of equipment and a sump.
The return pump has a barbed T fitting with a green line coming off of it before the main return goes into the UV sterilizer and back into the tank. It looks almost like a dosing line.
The previous owner didn't know what it did. He thought it was just an overflow..

Pump is a Rio 1700 and 3/4 return tubing.
The smaller tubing in the pic is not a part of it.

Any ideas what it's there for?

Just guessing... maybe fed a refugium?

Is there anything in that "bunch of equipment" that needs a water supply?

some overflows needed to stay primed and used aqua lifters, that is what it could be used for among manner other imaginative explanations

Is the black thing a standard T or a venturi? If the latter, then it was likely an air vacuum for the U tube on a HoB overflow box. If a regular T, then who knows ... feeding something.

Could be a make shift siphon break. Maybe?

There is gunk in the green line by the looks of it. Maybe it was dosing something slowly into the pump line

Return line question

The tank is a 30 cube with custom overflow. It’s drilled which flows into a trickle filter in a 10g sump. No baffles or chambers. The skimmer sits next to the return pump and from there up to a UV sterilizer then out the return in the tank.

jacksonpt, no refugium from the info I got from the seller, who is the original owner, that bought the custom tank from a pet shop in its present setup a few years ago.

Cruiznblue, nothing I’m aware of

outy, that’s an interesting possibility

ca1ore, appears to be a standard barbed T with a threaded end. No HOB equipment to my knowledge.

Dugless, you might be onto something since the discharge nozzles are under the waterline and below the overflow teeth?

dt204, that’s a possibility, but wouldn’t the return be too much pressure for a dosing pump?

mcgyvr, I’ll definitely have to try that! Haha

So this is what you've been up to!

That looks almost exactly like the setup I had for a calcium reactor, in my reef tank days. I'm sure you could connect it to just about any reactor you wanted. GFO, charcoal, bio pellets, chaeto - you name it!

Now that you've piqued our interest, how about a build thread?
