Activated carbon - do you use?

Hi everyone,

I was going broke running ROX 0/8 carbon on my system and I quickly got sick of trying to "renew" Purigen. After a ton of research, I found a source for another carbon that to me works just as good if not better but is much cheaper.

If you run GAC in a reactor and you want to test this out, hit me up. I'll send you a quart bag for you to try.

I just want to make sure that it isn't just me having these results.

Why don't you just post the source here?
Trying to make money on it?

Very few people will actually see the results of running carbon in their tanks..
I do it because I have a bunch of softies and run it as a preventative measure should the release toxins.. So I just change it out every few months and "hope" its doing something.. But I can't tell I'm running it besides seeing the reactor output water..

If your water is yellow you can see the results but other than that.. the results are hard to quantify..

I can tell a significant difference in clarity when I stop using it.

I will run carbon in a reactor most of the time but I tend not to change it very often.

Carbon should be changed every week or two or it will lose its effectiveness. This is why it is critical to balance performance with cost.

I've run out of bags. Thanks for everyone's input.

I gave up on carbon. Yes we can see a bit of difference here and there but is it worth the hassle? Not sure. Considering its short term effectiveness definitelly makes us doubt it.

Wish BRS did a test on its efficiency in a month or two so we could have results back what we think though.
Purigen and that other renewable stuff never gave me any results. I think any snow white bead product we place in a bag inside a tank will turn brown through time and look like its dong something. I know many swear by it.

Very little is actually necessary to run a successful reef.

There are lots of tools, and like any tool, they fill certain roles when needed.

GAC is one of those tools.
