Protein Skimmer Question

Should you run the protein skimmer 24x7 or shut it off at night?

Personally I have mine on 24/7 unless it’s getting a good clean.

I only turn mine off when I am doing a water change (and that's because the water level in the sump increases so much that the skimmer would overflow when the main pump is turned off).

Every once in a while, I clean it during a water change.

24-7
It continues to remove DOC, adds to water movement and the exchange of gases.
Only turn off for maintenance...

+1 for 24/7. I only shut mine off during feeding cycles and maintenance chores.

Same here. 24/7 runtime, only shutting down for disassembly and maintenance.

Yes 24/7 for the reasons listed above.

I've found skimmer pumps in general to be happier (read run better/more consistently with less issues) when kept on as much as possible.
