How many clowns?
Hello,
I am in the process of setting up a 65 gallon community tank. I have two (very) small ocellaris clowns in the tank right now. How many clowns can peacefully coexist in a 65 gallon tank? What species can coexist? I plan on getting firefish, anthias, and other small peaceful fish. Thanks!! |

2 clowns.
Firefish is fine. Look into grammas, fairy/flasher wrasses, blennies, gobies, cardinals

One pair unless you started w/ juvies from same clutch, anthias depends on type, but usually most should have something bigger, maybe a pair of bartletts, but I think even LA suggests a 75g min for even small anthia.

You'll get a lot of opinions on the clownfish from different people, most will say never do more than 2 in a tank, or at some point, weeks or even months they will attack each other until they die. There are others who have successfully had more and like davoocean said its usually because they were all young and from the same batch.. with that being said there are plenty of other fish to have to not risk getting more than 2

I’ve successfully kept more than 2, *but* in larger tank. Clownfish are great, stick with 2 & enjoy.

Does that advice mean with different species of clowns? i.e. tomato or clarkii or misbar, etc.?

2 of the same species in your tank size. Ocellaris or pecula for your tank size. If you have a mating pair of tomato, clarkii, or maroon, that will be the only fish in that tank most likely.
An exception is that ocellaris and percula have been kept as a pair by some.

Just a pair. One has to be larger in my experience
