Strange fish behavior
I have a stripped fang blenny who has been acting weird.
It started rubbing/ dancing around my coral banded shrimp. The CBS will snip at it until the blenny swims away, comes back and starts the whole dance over again. I am not aloud to post videos or pictures otherwise is show you. Everything else seems fine, my water is good. The blenny eats well and has a tubby little tummy. Very active and full of personality. I have a 29 gallon tank with two clown fish, coral banded shrimp, several hermit crabs, one bumble bee snail and the stripped fang toothed blenny. Everyone gets together really well except for when the clowns try and eat the hermits. Any advice /tips? |

I think you have a fang blenny that thinks or wishes the CBS was a cleaner shrimp, and the CBS would like to get a better grip or pinchers on that and or any other fish that might come close.
CBS's can be kinda mean, and keep in mind that fang blenny may also put a bite on snails and other inverts s well

You can put rainbow rock in a saltwater tank? Didn't know that.

Rainbow rock probably has iron in it (red color) but it probably won't do too much harm---we use granuatedb iron to remove phosphate.. Copper (blue stain or obvious copper metal) is the thing to worry about.

I would get him a cleaner shrimp but I don't think my CBS would take that very well. The CBS name is grumps, I think at this point he is just getting annoyed with the blenny. After like 30 minutes he would try and move away and freeze. I know they can, he hasn't had any interest in the hermits or snail yet but I am not to worried about it. The blenny eats frozen foods like a champ. The clowns on the other hand LOVE to harass the hermits. |

The rainbow rock has never caused trouble in my tank, I have had it in there since day 1. My CBS loves it, gets mad and always knocks the hermits off his rock .

Many years ago I got a canary blenny, which is just a prettier name for a fang, and I think fang is a much better fit, as on it's intro it swam to about 5 snails and just bit them. I did not realize at the time I had a fang actually, nor did I know they contain a tiny amount of venom or toxin in their bite, so each snail he bit just died and he later ate them, so that was it for snails in that tank.

Okay,
Ill keep an eye on the blenny but your probably right because I never see it rubbing on anything else. Its a a weird little dude, loves to wrap itself around the heater when it sleeps. Do you think its possible to have a CBS and a cleaner shrimp? |
