Treating DT (Ich) with Cupramine advice needed

Hi,

I am currently running a Fish Only system with artificial live rock and dry substrate.

Due to being new and inexperienced in the hobby I added a Longnose Butterfly into the tank about a week ago without QT'ing and he is showing signs of Ich. So far, he is acting completely normal and eating fine.

We have decided to use Cupramine (due to having no corals/inverts), and used the first recommended dose from Seachem this morning (we have a 400L tank so 10ML of Cupramine), and will be adding the additional 10ML in 48 hours.

I've turned my protein skimmer off, but my question is around a canister filter. Can these be turned on and keep running while treating with Cupramine? I have a Seachem copper test kit due to be delivered tomorrow so I cannot check whether the 0.25ppm is still in my system until tomorrow evening. But I'm worried that if I leave the tank until tomorrow evening and all the copper has been absorbed by the filter then the butterfly is running out of time.

Sorry for the long winded question!

It depends what media you have in the canister filter. If you have carbon then yes it will remove the copper. If you use Poly Filter then yes it will remove the copper. If not you should be ok.

Thanks for the reply! I just checked online and it's a bigger version of this filter:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Betta-Canis.../dp/B01E759LU8

I see on the product information it says that it comes with carbon, so I presume it does have it in. On the picture they provide can you let me know which one is carbon so I know what I need to remove please?

Thanks for replying.

I've had a look online and think the picture below is an image from my canister filter. Which one is the carbon? Is it the one on the top right?

Carbon is black and granular and shouldn't come with a canister filter in my experience (you would have to buy that yourself)
