nyos quantum 220
Had for about two years biggest POS wast of $900. Today it has went in the bin. It’s at the point it is unusable due to the skim cup not being able to be used as it jams on and unless the skimmer is jammed between the glass. Trying to remove the cup the hole body as cracked and broken off.
Can’t believe the company has not changed them as they are a faulty design. Can anyone recommend a good quality skimmer as I need to replace it today. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wow, I was looking at the smaller Nyos skimmer. I may not pull the trigger on that after all. Aren't they imported my Ecotech? It seems like a lot of Ecotech products lately are suffering in the QC dept.

Depends on budget. I've used many throughout the years...my current and favorite is ATB. I have used Bubble King, Deltec, Euroreef, and other brands that aren't even around any longer. If budget allows I'd go ATB or Bubble King.

I love my Eshopps, for a comparable, quality cone skimmer that is even cheaper. The cup has never been an issue in the few years that I have had it. The pump has been great, cleaning it is a breeze, and it always skims consistent.

Smaller one, the 120. Running it on a 90 and it has been great, no complaints. Its not the newest generation, maybe the gen 3. The cup goes on and off super easy and never jams or anything, what the OP has encountered with the Nyos. But theres lots of good skimmers out there, a good pump goes a long way.

I was just curious. I've been pretty happy with my little Aquamaxx cone-s skimmer but I see videos and see more swirl and more bubbles and start thinking that I need a new skimmer. LOL

You can try playing around with your water height to see if you can get more out of your skimmer before buying a new one. A cone skimmer is a cone skimmer, just need a good pump and a cup that comes off each time like mentioned above.

A friend just set one of these up(smaller version), I'll be curious to see if he has the same issues your describing.
Kind of sad really as one of these was on my short list of new skimmers.

Awesome. This skimmer is actually giving me a dry skimate. With the Seaclone skimmer I was constantly dumping tinted brown water from the cup and screwing up my parameters. The adjustability that the DC pump adds is incredible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
