Clearing Cyano
Hi all,
Looking for some advice on how to clear my sand of what appears to be red cyano once and for all. Granted my phosphate is a bit high, but I have algae issues no where else and have tried both a GFO reactor and now phosguard. Any advice? I vacuum out during biweekly water changes, but it always returns. Tank is about 7 months old. Params: Salinity: 1.026 Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 5 Phosphate: .10 Alk:8.5 Calcium: 440 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you have a canister or HOB filter, make sure you clean weekly.
Add some flow across the sand. That's certainly not a bad case by any means. Numbers posted look good, |

Welcome to a normal new tank..
Nothing needed really.. Just continue with water changes to maintain suitable water parameters.. I would stop using the phosguard/reactor and just focus on reducing feeding along with water changes to manage your phosphate levels..

phosphate doesn't have much to do with cyano. it's not an algae. It's a bacterial sheet, mostly responsive to light. If sunlight is reaching your tank in this change of seasons, that can cause you a problem. Also check your ro/di filter's output. Be sure it's zero TDS.
