Diatom
I had a diatom bloom (nasty brown) that has since went away. I now have some of my rocks turning green, doesn’t really look bad but didn’t know if that was normal or if there is something I should be doing.
Also have some string looking green algae coming from my sand. Thanks for any advice. |

Absolutely normal..
The "ugly stages" of a tank typically consist of a diatom bloom then green film/hair algae and then sometimes cyano and typically in that order.. Again.. totally normal and just like the diatom bloom the algae will typically pass on its own provided you keep up with proper maintenance.. Usually what equates to changing 20% of the water every 2 weeks is typically a good starting point..

Yep, good chance for your snails to prove their worth.
That has to be so aggravating for them, to have fresh, green algae on their shells, but they can never get to it. |
