Established Elegance Coral - is part of it separated from skeleton??
Some of you know I have an Australian Elegance coral closing in on close to a year now.
In the past 2 weeks, I thought it was perhaps growing but it is basically like the Elegance coral's "skirt" if you will has come undone from it's skeleton in the back. It flows up freely in the water current which concerns me greatly. At the same time, it doesn't appear to be immediately dying - the polyp extension is as normal as it ever is. Does anyone know what would have caused this and/or why? It seems a 'bad thing' to me for a part of a coral to come loose from its skeleton...will it eventually die? Is there anything I can do? See picture below, it's the 'backside of the coral' (the other side) that you can see outlined in red as it now is 'free floating' in the water. Sorry for poor lighting (glass needs to be cleaned and the lights were going down..so very 'blue') Please advise. Thanks |

Husband said it's been more like 3 weeks. We've tried moving it and put it in a area with less flow and it seemed less happy there...if you are dealing with an Elegance coral that you know came from Australia and you've had it a year....could too forceful of a flow have caused it? Husband had been working with his gyre a month ago and I have protested multiple times that the flow is too much.
...or do we go back to automatically putting it in the 'ECS' category? |

It's not sick, but it is ****ed about something in its environment. It's bailing out of its skeleton. Check your water parameters, do an icp test, check for Stray current, parakets swings, etc. Have you changed anything lately? New lights or food or supplements?
If it leaves the skeleton you can try to get out to grow a new one. You can make a container for it my doing holes into a tupperware. Continue feeding it during this time if it will accept food. Best of luck! I had one die of maybe the disease, maybe something else. I've been wanting to get another personally. If you abandon this dude or he bails maybe we can work some trade out |
