New Aquarium Setup - Questions
Hello folks!
I just bought an used tank this weekend, excited to start this new build! Although, I'd like some suggestions since I have a problem. I have already setup and established, a 120 gallon (4ft*24*24) that has some wrasses, clowns and a tomini tang. Besides that, I have a quarantine tang were I've put my yellow (bully) tang and my powder brown tang - this is a 55g tank. Previously... I had all three tangs in my 120g but my yellow tang was bullying everyone and my powder brown and tomini were constantly getting ich, I've removed both powder brown and yellow tang and ich is gone. Now, I need to transfer the yellow tang and the powder brown to my new 6ft*18*21.5 (117.5gallons) tank. My question is: I know that my yellow tang is a bully, He stresses all my fish up, not sure why. What would you do? Do you think since my new tank is longer that won't be a problem (having the powder brown and the yellow tang together in there), or should I put my powder brown with the tomini in my 120g and leave the yellow tang alone in the new tank? I am at the point of exchanging the yellow tank for another fish at my LFS, but he's my wife's favorite... Another question, I am attaching a pic of this new tank, what do you think: Should I raise my tangs in this longer (but thinner) tank, or just leave them in my 120g? Thanks guys! |

In general, 6x1.5 footprint is better than a 4x2 footprint for tangs.
If you are going to keep all three, and you are going to keep both tanks, then it may be best to split them up. I would put the powder brown in the 6 foot tank. Also, if you have one that's being really aggressive, put it in its own tank. I would probably leave the yellow in the 120, and put the other two in the 6' tank. Keep in mind that if you haven't treated the fish and tank for ich, it will still be present.

The reality is that every situation/fish is different.. We can make assumptions/guesses all day long but the only way to know for sure is to try it and adapt as needed.. maybe the new surroundings are enough for it to stop being a bully.. maybe introducing it last will help.. maybe it can't be saved.. maybe it tastes better with butter..
