Macroalgae
Hey guys. I recently found these different types of macro algae in the ocean And was wondering if anyone knew maybe what kind they were? I just wanted to get them for my boys while we are on vacation and then I will return them when we leave. Thoughts? Thanks for any input

You brought an aquarium with you on vacation? You're a hardcore reefer!

Heck yea! I live by the beach anyway, but I always like to discover what the coast has to offer!

Very cool looking macro algaes for sure. I'd be interested in using these in my new fuge build. Anyone have any experience with them or know of any issues with keeping them instead of cheato? That codium looks almost as good as some coral

Gracilaria is common in this hobby and is often used as food for Tangs/Angles,etc...
Its nutrient uptake rate/growth rate is much slower than Chaeto and is not a replacement.. But if you want to produce your own macros for fish food then its an excellent choice.. Codium is a colder water species that doesn't do well in the temperatures most reefers keep their tanks.. It isn't a replacement for Chaeto either.. Cheato is intended for fast/easily controlled nutrient reduction.. Most "display" macros like Codium could be are for visual aspects,etc...While "food" macros like gracilaria are for well.. food
