Recuring rock?
I took out my rock and put in bleach and let it sit a week in bucket for now a week.
What should be my next step? Should I use RO/DI water and let it sit another week before adding salt? Should I buy a piece of Live Rock in order to make this rock alive again? I am basically redoing my whole tank. Thinking of removing sand all together or getting new sand. Live Sand no good ones in bag? Weird thing the Caribsea Fiji Pink Live is always cheapest by me. Is this a good sand? Wont be too small? Last edited by drillsar; 03/07/2020 at 05:21 PM. |

IMO the next step should be to thoroughly washing and then drying them. In a week or two you can use the dried rock for scaping ,add a small piece of LR to reseed the tank.

Here is what I did about 6 months ago.
- Did bleach bath for a week like you - Left it out in the sun for a week to dry - Planned on putting it back in the bucket with RODI water and use dechlorinator, but never got around to it. Instead rock just sat dry in the tub for last 6 months or so. - I just filled bucket up with RODI 2 weeks ago, tested for PO4 as I wanted to see if there will be any leaching so that I can take care of that with lanthanum chloride. So far very little, but will give it a week or 2 more to be certain. - Will aquascape and then start curing process in the bucket in saltwater using RODI (tank still not setup) To answer your live sand question, live sand in a bag is a ripoff. It is not live, it just has some bacteria added and thats it. Anything actually alive wouldnt survive in a bag. |
