Head trauma?

So I purchased a powder blue tang the other day and asked if I could pick him up in a day or two so I could set up QT. I went to pick him up tonight and the guy at the store tells me that about an hour ago he jumped out of the tank at the store and landed on his head. I thought he was joking but then when I saw him in the tank he was swimming in a very unnatural way, almost like he was doing somersaults and rolling n his side.
The guy said he might just need a while to regain his senses.
I told him I will come back Sunday and see how he’s doing.
If he appears to be ok on Sunday should I take him or is it likely that he has suffered some neurological damage?

I wouldn't chance it or at least wait longer than Sunday. He could have internal damage which may not show up for a week or longer.

I think I would wait until a new shipment... If really nice I would also wait a few weeks... not just injuries but what about what was on floor that could have been on the fish and how long was fish on floor before discovered etc.

If he's not swimming right, it could also be a swim bladder injury, and I'd wait a week. Make sure he's eating before you buy him.

Update
Thanks for the replies.
Unfortunately the little guy jumped out of the tank at the LFS again and they found him on the floor when they opened up Sunday morning. He didn’t make it.
I purchased another powder blue from a different store and he is in qt right now.

I think you dodged a bullet. There was something going on with that fish, to jump twice---either spooked by something, or having oxygen difficulties, maybe something in the gills. Or brain damage from the first incident. I do recommend a fine mesh top for a tank: you can make these yourself out of window screen.

I did make screen covers for my DT and egg crate covers for my QT.
I keep wrasses so it’s a must.
