New/Used Tank

Hi Guys,

After a 7 year break I am getting back into the hobby. I'm going to take things slow this time or my wife will divorce me. LOL Anyway I purchased a 45 gallon JBJ cube which is currently set up as a reef. It's a mature tank and I will be moving it along with all the live rock etc to my house. My question is, what do you think I can expect regarding the cycle? There are some LPS in the tank which will also be going for a ride. Any tips on breaking it down which could aid in its recovery?

Thanks!

Congradulations on your return and what looks like a good buy!. Get new live sand and toss most of the old sand. I would do about a 20% water change. When I move tanks the first thing I do is siphon off and save most of the water before distrubing anything. I want to disturb the detritus and gunk as little as possible and make it easier to get most of it out (there's some good stuff in it but if it hasn't been disturbed in a long time there's stuff that isn't going to like being mixed up and it's impossible to say what's going to happen as some of it dies or settles out on places it didn't live before). I've found it easiest to use lots of 5 gallon buckets, (I wouldn't expect a move with that tank to take more than about 3 hours).
