can i dip base of candy cane coral in boiling water?

i found a few colonial hydroids the other day. i removed LR that they were on and boiled for a bit. only ones i see left are on base of candy cane which was next to those rocks. i tried injecting them w/ syringe filled w/ boiling water and kalk. i killed some but cannot get others deep in base of coral. can i dip just the base , NOT polyps in boing water to kill the remainder?

You could use a chisel to remove them.
