New Tank Sequence

Hi all, after reading a couple of books and lurking on this forum, I think I have the sequence of events required to start a tank. Step one, fill the tank with RO/DI saltwater. Step 2, add live rock and maybe a piece of raw shrimp to initiate the nitrogen cycle. Step 3, after the cycle is complete, add the live sand and cleanup crew. I was wondering if adding the live sand would cause a second cycle? I'm sure the live sand would have a good share of dead critters in it. Should the sand be added BEFORE the original cycle ends, or would this cause the critters to die?
