Stinkin' Maxijets
Do you think the manufacturers of Maxijets would reimburse me for the yellow tang it killed? I don't think so either. They should however come up with a better way to attach their bloody powerheads.
The stupid thing fell off the glass and knocked a fairly large piece of rock with a frag attached to it onto my tang's body. I thought he would pull through but his health has been deteriorating. My fiancee and I found him stuck to none other than a Maxijet Rest in peace Sunny. He has gone to the great reef in the sky. We'll miss his cheerful disposition and attention getting way of life.

Sorry to hear of the loss.
Lots of people will glue their maxijets to magnets because they are fed up with the suction cups being so weak. They are a good powerhead when attached that way.

Your LFS have them made for aquarium clean up. They are well sealed and strong. If your LFS doesn't have them any of the major online stores will.

Several times i have come home to see a cloud of sand blowing because of the stupid maxijets suction cups. My cousin actually lost most of his sps collection when the same thing happened. I just have the cord as tight as possible so that when the suction cups don't hold, it wont fall down and start blowing the sand bed. They're good pumps otherwise.

If you have them higher up in the tank... use the hanger that comes with the MJ's. They don't fail. I realize that if you have them lower in the tank this won't work but.....

The magnet idea works well, I have a couple mounted this way. Only trouble is that on larger tanks with thicker glass, you have to use the larger cleaner magnets and they get a little expensive at that point if you buy new. I searched locally and found one used that was essentially no good for glass cleaning any more, but works great as a magnet mount for a powerhead, and was much cheaper than new.

Sorry to hear about your loss.
In a 60 gal, go with the cheap magnet cleaners from online or a pet store. I have no issues using the cheaper magnets in my 90. I just used clear caulk to attach the PHs to the magnets. Also, maybe think about attaching frags/rocks in the future with epoxy. Helps to keep everything in place. |

I attached mine to a PVC pole. Now the pole and the pump are completely covered with red and purple coralline algae and it looks like one piece. |

I epoxied mine to magnetic wreath door hangers. I got them at Michael's Arts and Crafts for 5.49. They come two a package and are rubber coated. I had to hammer down the hook part on the one that I glue to the powerhead. I had a hard time finding them but finally found them again at Michaels. I looked online and they were 10 for same thing w a 6 shipping charge.
They are round about probably about 3 inches. I use the two on my MJ when I mix salt as can just put the magnet on the outside of the bucket and it holds the inside one w the powerhead. Now am going to attach to a couple of Seios as had the same problem w those suction cups.

Oh, when I say they come two a package, I should clarify. There are two parts to one magnetic holder in one package..one for inside the tank and one for outside..
